Software quality is significantly affected by quality gaps that we “chose to live with”. This is a not so new trend in modern software product companies. Do you agree?
I come across just too many software product stakeholders who opt to say, “we can live with that for now” when it comes to quality related issues in applications. I call these issues rather calling them defects as the ones that I am referring to here are quality related. One cannot relate such an issue directly to a line of requirement in the SRS.
From a development point of view, these issues that I am referring to may not even require much time to fix. Still we tent to go ahead and publish software opting to live with it hoping that the user will never miss something that they never requested. However, the eye opener comes in when a competitor comes up with that extra bit of quality that we overlooked. Here, we find development teams fire fighting which requires them to meet extreme deadlines. This intern causes regression in the application.
How many of you go the extra step to provide the best experience for the user, rather than just meeting the requirements? -
